Gothic metal masters Poisonblack, which split up in 2015, surprised their fans around the world with a tour of Finland in September/October 2023. This year marked the 20th anniversary of their first album “Escapexstacy,” and they celebrated this by bringing back their original singer, J-P Leppäluoto, and performing the whole album live. The tour dates sold out super fast, but thankfully, they added a few more shows. We got to watch their final show at the legendary Tavastia Club in Helsinki on November 2nd, and like the others, tickets for this show were snapped up quickly.
Apart from “Escapexstacy,” the band played many songs from their other albums, such as the classics “Home Is Where the Sty Is” and “Rush”, with band members switching on and off the stage for different songs. As many of you already know, Poisonblack was founded in 2000 by Ville Laihiala, who was also covering vocals duties in Sentenced back then, which happens to be one of the most representative bands in the Finnish metal scene of all times. Sentenced disbanded in 2005 and left a big void in many fans’ hearts, so it was great to see him play lead guitar and sing on a live show.
The mood at the concert was warm and electric, and we could really feel the excitement. Fans from all over, including outside Europe, showed up, which really impressed the band. A Mexican flag even made it onto the stage, showing how far fans would travel for them.
Eventually, things got emotional both on stage and among the audience. We tried our best to capture it in our photos. Seeing the band members show their love for each other was a highlight and brought smiles to everyone’s faces.
