VOA Fest is back and is celebrating 10 years!
After one year of hiatus, one of the most important heavy festivals in Portugal will be returning with a colossal band roster on July 4th – 5th.
Day #1
Featuring a 2-day format once again, on the first day (July 4) all the maggots will get the chance to see Slipknot live again. And this time, they will be bringing a brand new record called “We Are Not Your Kind”. It is scheduled to be released on August 9th, 2019, via Roadrunner Records. It is the band’s first album since the firing of longtime member Chris Fehn. Things will not get any softer when Arch Enemy take the stage. The Swedish melodic death metal titans led by the blue-haired lady Alissa White-Gluz haven’t release an full-length album in two years, but we’re pretty sure that the fans won’t seem bothered. After all, you will be seeing guitar god Jeff Loomis in person!
From one melodic veteran to another, the charismatic Matt Heafy and his Trivium are on the same boat. For those who haven’t seen Trivium live, prepare for one roller coaster of melodic metalcore with a couple of thrash metal twists, always enriched by Heafy’s and Corey Beaulieu’s guitar work. Speaking of craziness on guitars, oldschool death metal Portuguese pioneers Thormenthor are back from the dead. It’s been 25 years since the release of their one and only full-length opus “Abstract Divinity”. This is one gig a lot of people should be anxious to witness.
Also in this day, and going back to metalcore, While She Sleeps are an English metalcore band from Sheffield and have a new album in the bag “So What?”. Closing the opening day bill, Rasgo, the Portuguese-singing are neither outsiders nor unknown to the Portuguese audience. Still promoting their “Ecos da Selva Urbana” debut, a quality show is expected from this group.
Day #2
From one day with epic headliners to another, the second day of the VOA Fest shows no mercy: The almight Slayer will perform its final show in Portugal. When you read the word “Slayer”, no more words are needed, right? And it’s the ultimate farewell… Joining them all the way from the USA, Lamb Of God will also perform at the VOA Fest. Celebrating 20 years of existence as LOG, Randy Blythe & Cº are highly expected by the Portuguese fans.
Keeping things as heavy as the heaviest matter in the universe (pun intended), french colossus Gojira need to be careful so they won’t demolish the Restelo stadium. It’s been three years since the release of “Magma”, one of the band’s most daring albums and the fans thirst for seeing Gojira live doesn’t fade away. These gentlemen will, for sure, be one of the biggest highlights of the entire festival. Joining the team will be Moonspell. Just like Slayer, no words are needed to introduce Moonspell to the Portuguese crowd. Carriers of the Portuguese flag across the Heavy Metal seas all around the globe, their presence is completely justified and earned.
Also coming from the USA, New Orleans nu metal revivalists Cane Hill released their debut album Smile back in 2016, and more recently kind of abandoned their nu-metal approach on their new “Too Far Gone”. Last, but not least, another Portuguese heavy-weight: We Are Killing Ourselves (aka WAKO) will show what they’re made of on stage.
