The third edition of this peculiar event took place again at Side B, Benavente, by the time of the commemorations of the city’s local festivities.

This year the Side B crew designed an outdoor esplanade that set the perfect ambience to make this a real one day metal festival.

Unfortunately we didn’t get there in time to see nationals SPEEDEMON, and so we took our second live contact with CHAPEL OF SIN to start our hostilities. These trashers played out their best tracks before an almost empty room, once the majority of the audience was outside, profiting from one of the first hot summer nights of the year.

Then, already with some more people inside, black metalers SCARIFICARE presented the best festival surprise. A two man performance with some well balanced post black metal hymns, that caught our attention during 35 minutes.

After them, MORTE INCANDESCENTE continued the black metal ritual, playing another good set, when the room was already quite full. Showing that they cannot play less good shows, these Lisbon black metalers have put “Necromaniaco” and “Necroculto” echoing again in our rotten souls.

In one well designed semi-black metal night, it was SERRABULHO’s party grind one of the moments that more enthusiasm created on the audience, playing their new concept of jocose grind sound. Then we had to miss CRUZ DE FERRO heavy metal performance, returning for another MIDNIGHT PRIEST presentation. We know that they play live very often, and than heavy metal is not for everyone. But they sure know how to warm a night with their captivating shows, and this one was not an exception.

Another band we missed was DECAYED. But not just we, once leader J.A. took again the decision of not playing, even if all the band members were at the site. Well, it is not the first time he does that, so be aware before the next time you decide to leave your place to go see their black metal concert, because…it may not happen. Again.

For the closing of the night, two bands were missing: black metalers FLAGELUM DEI, with their new ritualistic attitude, that unfortunately didn’t seemed to explode the audience, and technical death metalers CONCEALMENT. This was the first time we saw them live, and they sounded perhaps too progressive for the closure of what it normally turns out to be one strong alcoholic night. Setlist: “Hamartia”, “Stridulation”, “Acanthous”, “Deluge”, “Crimson Din”, “Long for Flesh”, “Resonance”, “Eye”, “Cyclothymic”, “Volutions” and “Orifice”.

It is difficult to assist to one not good metal night at Side B, and Sardinha de Ferro proved that it will stand for the upcoming years as another mark of that devastating quality.
