On Friday the concerts started already in the final festival site, now truly surrounded only by Nature, in total communion with Darkness. The forest creates it’s on perimeter, and so you won’t catch any physical artificial barriers to enter the festival. The metal market was also more expanded, with some good proposals.
The concerts began with German’s AIGILAS, dark black metal band formed in 2011. They presented two vocalists, with the second being a woman that seemed not to be able to sustain the strength of some of her longer shouts. Nevertheless, they delivered a show that pulled a good reaction from the crowd, which seemed to really know the themes. Congrats to their stage decoration.
Next, also Germans, STREAMS OF BLOOD came from Bavaria to present their anti-human black metal. The themes sounded well-paced, with also some importance given to the stage presentation. Even if it was not a memorable show, some of their themes maintained the audience well awake, namely “Bringer of Light” and “Speak to the Serpent’s”.

Polish underground act ARKONA was the first real concert to almost fulfill the terrain in front of the stage. We have seen them a month before, at Darkness Rising Festival, but their concert in UTBS seemed to be heavier. Even if we can’t stop thinking that something is still missing live comparing to the aggressive sound of their studio work, this concert was solid, well executed, and generated the best crowd reaction that far.

Then, also highly awaited, Dutch FUNERAL WINDS invaded the stage with a blasphemic performance, shaking the audience with their fast raw black metal themes. A well-cared stage presentation, with strong candles burning, was also a good support for what it turned out to be one of the more intense moments of the weekend. High rotation show by this underrated Dutch act, that proved to be worth of better reconnaissance.Setlist; “For the Glory of Xul”, “Soul Harvest”, “The Old Serpent Stirs”, “When the Funeral Winds Cry for Revenge”, “Anzu”, “Visions of afterlife”, “When Twilight Shines Over the Forgotten Fields”, “Koude Haat”, “Carnage in the Temple of Jerusalem”, “Thy Eternal Flame” and “The Cursed Bloodline”.
And so, by that time, the table was set to welcome another intense black metal evening. First, after dinner, with German veterans MORRIGAN, one of the most consensual bands coming from Germany. It’s a two man band, also live, but they were able to execute their heavy sound perfectly. Nevertheless, their more recent approach to pagan and celtic clean voice themes, seemed to us like a bit forced in terms of the vocalist’s voice capacity. The crowd however, even in that “clean” moments, seemed to be living the moment.

KOLDBRANN was the only band representing Norway in this event. We have seen them four years ago, but since then two notes are two retain: the sound is maybe less chaotic; and the stage performance is much more intense. They started with “IntroVertigo”, followed by “Totalt Sjelelig Bankerott” from their latest album, in a first concert half that showed a very professional Koldbrann side. After that, the Norwegians started playing some of their major old tracks, like “Inkvisitor Renegat”, to finish a competent performance with “Russian Vodka” cover, offering a bottle of vodka to the audience. It was a crazy, but undoubtedly drunk moment, with the front of audience sharing the whole bottle. We tasted it too: pure alcohol!
For the final act, Japanese legends SIGH had the mission of maintaining the pace, which we believe they did. Their avant-garde black metal gathered a good reaction from the crowd, which seemed satisfied with the entertainment coming from the stage. In one of the fire wax droppings, it seemed that female vocalist Dr. Mikannibal hurt herself, but not without continuing their frenetic exhibition. It is a band to play live and this gig showed what Sigh is really all about: blasphemy and perversion.
