Dear Avantasians, we were the lucky ones to begin the new year with another fantastic masterpiece from the headman Tobias Sammet, “Ghostlights”. A whole lot of guests participate in this angelrock opus that has a little bit of everything like symphonic and power metal, rock ballads, and some 80’s synth, crafted with musicians likeSaschaPaeth, Michael Rodenberg and Felix Bohnke. The single “Mistery of a Blood Red Rose” reveals the first lights with the voice of Tobias leading the way, and then the best of Avantasia universe comes up with a great track called “Let the Storm Descend Upon You”, with a fantastic chorus leaded by JornLande, Ronnie Atkins (Pretty Maids), and Robert Mason (Warrant). One of the best performances is from Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) in the misty “The Haunting”. Of course the typical combination (JornLande, Michael Kiske) was not forgotten as you’ll hear in the song “Ghostlights”. There’s more than the hear can reach for us in this record, as another guests appear in this project like for example Herbie Langhans from Sinbreed on “Draconian Love”, Marco Hietala from Nightwish on “Master of the Pendulum”, Sharon den Adel from Within Temptation on “Isle Of Evermore”, and Bob Catley from Magnum on “A Restless Heart and Obsidian Skies”. JornLande voice will definitely amaze the listener in “Lucifer”, showing us all that the talented singer can do. Tobias Sammet can’t stop surprising us and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down in terms of creativity, perfect song writing, and creation of stories in a universe that only him can go in and come back to give us his visions, this time, in ghost formed lights.
