BELPHEGOR – Totenritual

After 3 years, Belphegor finally returns with a new album of originals. “Totenritual” has the same elements from previous releases and brings their same death / black / thrash metal blasphemy sound, following the same line of work in terms of composition. The album was recorded at Stage One Studios in Germany and in Studio Mischmaschine in Austria. Mastered at Audiohammer Studios in Florida.

The band recorded another exercise of extreme metal, furious and relentless, as strong and violent as the listener can get. This can be witnessed in songs like “Baphomet”, “The Devil’s Son”, “Swinefever – Regent of Pigs”, “Apophis – Black Dragon”, “Totenkult – Exegesis of Deterioration”, and “Totenritual”. In terms of their lyrics, the songs go around the same obscure themes. Riffs wise, they sound dirty and raw as previously done by  the band. They proved that as a band they don’t need to change much to produce effective songs causing the desired impact on their listeners.

“Totenritual” isn’t and innovating album in terms of Belphegor’s world. Nonetheless, it’s a good listening, including great low tuned riffs, diabolical voices and a clinical drum work. All those gain a new strength when seen live, something it wasn’t so accomplished with their most recent releases.
