Belzebong – Greenferno

After 2011’s “Sonic Scapes & Weedy Grooves”, “Greenferno” is the second full-lenght from the Polish stoner/doom collective Belzebong.

The first song “Diabolical Dopenosis” starts with an riff that will immediately make your head bang. It then progresses into more intricate riffs while keeping the monstrous wall of fuzz. Other than some samples there is no space for lyrics or voices, but who needs vocals when you put a wah pedal to such good use? Repetition lays the foundations for psychedelia.

“Inhale in hell” reduces the pace, but still crushes riff by riff, sometimes nodding at a more noisy approach but always returning to the riff extravaganza and screamy guitar bends.
Like the title suggests, “Goat Smoking Blues” is a hymn to Lucifer, haze and blues, being the most doomy track of the album. The track “Undertoker” closes the album once again dragging the listener through stoner riffs, psych leads and punchy repetitions.

Overall it feels more aggressive and less laid back than the previous full-length “Sonic Scapes & Weedy Grooves”.
