FIREWIND – Immortals

After an hiatus of album releases for 5 years after the release of “Few Against Many” finally Firewind, the band led by Gus G., releases a new album “Immortals”.

Like other bands, such as Ex-Deo, who have been writing about the history of their roots, Firewind found inspiration in two epic battles, already portrayed in films like the 300 and with recognized importance to Greek history.

This is an album that deserves to be listened by Firewind and power metal fans. Containing a good dosage of powerful melodies and riffs, legendary lyrics sung by spectacular voice by the new vocalist Henning Basse and amazing guitar solos from one of the best guitar players in the world, Gus G, which demonstrates it well in the “Immortals” track with an extensive and memorable guitar solo.

The album doesn’t spare efforts to value the fighting power of the Spartans in one of the best known battles in history; “We Defy” and “Life and Die by the Sword”, portrays the decisive role that betrayal among them for the verdict of the Battle of Thermopylae in which the Spartans, led by King Leonidas, although smaller in number had a formidable performance in blocking the passage of Thermopylae against the Persians at 480BCE. Ode to Leonidas begin with a spoken passaged from King calling the listener attention to a promise to avenge the 300 Spartans who fell in a battle struggling with all their strength in defending access to the city and ending the Persians, now knowing that it wasn’t impossible, resulting in the union of the people and army and victory against the Persians in Battle of Salamis.

In the middle of the album, you have a small break in speed with the ballad “Lady of 1000 sorrows” where looking the Fortuna is sought to challenge the Persian Xerxes leader and become immortalized in history. With a good production and mastering work, the album stands out in its theme.  With its compositions and fast and powerful riffs, marks the return of the band to its power metal origins.
