Although seemingly newcomers, and wit their 2nd EP on board, the french quintet Harmonic Generator have been on the road for quite a while. And like the rules of rock n’ roll they’re still thriving, unreckoned, unfortunately.
Here is one of those bands that truly deserve promotion and credit, despite the fact that the sound they come up with is not entirely fresh and new. Even still is good, it is competent it is what you truly expect from a sound and genre, altogether. It’s pure and heavy hard rock.
HG could just easy lineup with grand names of these scene like The Datsuns, Velvet Revolver, Guns and Roses, Snakepit Jet, Motley Crue, you name it. Even though they have a softspot for a more low, but still melodic voice à la Scott Weiland, they deliver what you want a pure dose of rock and roll.
The Flesh EP kick starts with a bump on the front door of «
», and they manage to keep the train rollin’ and pacin’, with «Secret Garden », and slow down to the power ballad «Something You need to Know». Only then level up speed again in the draconian «The End»
The guitar duos still owe much to Slash style, specially in the harmonics. But if you want to get in to a genre without much inventing it, you have to follow classics. That’s what you pay to have the old fuckin’ crème brûlée.
Harmonic Generator just pulls you to dust off your old jacket and headbang to the next club with a head full of beer,with a nice joint in your hands.
