Addiction is the French band Kopper8 debut album released on October 2015.
Playing a Thrash / Groove Metal the band envisioned to bring some diversity to this album, ranging from faster and heavier to mid-tempo rhythms.
The guitar melodies by Niko and Steff, catch your attention due to some sharp distortion and explosions. The album’s most devastating times are always well complemented by Oliver’s organic drums and Mouch’o War bass dexterity.
The vocalist Tex’s singing brings aggression to the album, incorporating some acute grunts here and there. All the album lyrics are in French, which can be seen as at first as a deal breaker for the listeners that don’t understand the language and focus mainly on the lyrics.
The listener will find the album title track to be a brilliant atmospheric intro. This piece gradually evolves to explode into a fast attack of groove metal. The album also provides oppressive melodies like the ones found in the songs “La Haine” and “Hate God”.
To close the record, the band included new versions of the songs “Amnesia” and “Requiem”, present in their EP French Steel.
The band leaves a promising impression and highly recommendable to listeners that enjoy heavier sonorities like Lamb of God, Pantera or Slayer.
