Almost 3 years in between, Omnium Gatherum returns with their characteristic melodic death metal new album “Grey Heavens”, a sound that Finnish bands have mastered so well during the years, and certainly this band contributed to it. Mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö, the record is what we can expect from the genre, a balance between heaviness and melancholic melodies.

“The Pit”, “Skyline”, the song that has a video “Frontiers”, and “Rejuvenate!”, are some examples of that. “Majesty and Silence”, “The Great Liberation”, and the instrumental “These Grey Heavens” are songs that immediately catch the listener for their beauty and melancholic heaviness, which is something that we like to find in this kind of genre, but also the blinking of the eye to something more progressive. Although the record doesn’t show us nothing new and at times tends to become a bit monotonous. It’s still an album enjoyable to hear.

Here are some words of the vocals Jukka Pelkonen, “It combines the history of the band in a way that once again brings something new and fresh to the table. Lyrically it also pushes the listener to a place which gives one really something to think about. The majesty which is the turbulence entangles with the mystery of silence and together they form life. That is what we experience each and every day”, that truley describe, in my point of view, the essence of the record.
