Lemmy died on on Dec. 28 from an “extremely aggressive form of cancer” that had spread to his neck and brain. According to his manager, he had only found out about the disease two days prior, when he got back the results of a brain scan he took shortly after his 70th birthday party concert. The band’s official statement said that he was at home playing a video game that had been delivered from the Rainbow when he passed.
The bassist had been sick for a few years, resulting in the abandonment or postponing of numerous Motorhead concerts, most recently this past summer when a lung infection sidelined him for six shows. But he refused to slow down. The band had wound up a European tour only 17 days before his death (you can watch the encore of his last show here) and, had he lived, they would have started another one in February.
