Preview: Prognosis Fest 2020

Last year the PROGNOSIS festival made its mark by hiring mostly first-class prog bands such as Leprous, Vola or TesseracT as well as providing a lot of additional happenings such as clinics of singing, drumming, composing etc. with Devin Townsend, Baard Kolstad of Leprous, Giancarlo Erra among others.

This year’s edition will be held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands again at the end of March, and it seems to become a good catch-up. The festival organizers have confirmed some high-quality bands such as Sons Of Apollo, Enslaved, and of course, Anathema as the headliner. Furthermore, Katatonia will play a set of songs chosen by their fans upfront via the internet. That should surely become one of the highlights of the festival. White Stones featuring Martin from Opeth will complement the billing alongside Long Distant Calling playing a Stummfilm set. At the last minute, Norwegians Maraton were added to the billing and have the potential to outshine many other bands, if they have a good day and good stage equipment.

The only flaw in last year’s edition was the fact that the playing times of bands were overlapping and very good bands such as Soen had to play the smaller stage with the result that many fans couldn’t enter the room anymore when their set began. It remains to be hoped that there will be a better solution for this year’s edition, giving shooting stars like Rendezvous Point a suitable framework for their art.

A big virtue is the festival’s idea to fill the time before the gigs with clinics of several musicians. Baard Kolstad (Leprous/ Rendezvous Point) will hold another one of his very passionate drum clinics (which is entertaining also for non-drummers). Furthermore, they could engage Don Airey (Deep Purple), Roger Öjersson (Katatonia), Fredrik Akesson (Opeth), or Bruce Soord (The Pineapple Thief) and some more for new clinics. Some other artists such as Costin Chioreanu (who did artworks for artists like Ihsahn and more) will take care of some art experiences that will surprise and astonish many.

All that will be worth the ticket price for sure. The location is easy to reach by walking from the main train station, and also a lot of hotels are around for a decent price. Therefore, we explicitly recommend you to not miss that one!

You can find more information at the festival’s website.
