In two days, it’s time to pack up our tents and head to the beautiful city of Beja, in the middle of Alentejo, for the 7th edition of SMSF – Santa Maria Summer Fest, a festival that has been gathering more and more followers each year. Althought the peacefull and warm plain of Alentejo it is known to be a place where everything works in a slow, but amicable, pace this extended weekend promises fast riffs and extreme music whose range will surely please everyone, tons of beer and a wonderfull time.

The billing is well balanced between the two stages, whose schedules are available below, and features some great names of the underground, both from the portuguese and the international scene.

Schedules

One of the biggest surprises for this year was the confirmation of the artist Allen Halloween. At first the rapper might seem out of place in a festival such as this, but if you take some time to pay attention to his lyrics you’ll see they are as raw and extreme as any other metal band on that poster.

In the midle of some vey quality names, we recomend Harakiri For The Sky that have a new album “III:Trauma” on the way, Rotting Christ that bring with them their most recent and critical acclaimed record “Rituals” or even Bizarra Locomotiva, whose irreverence are always the high point of every night. Just a few examples of how quality and extreme music is percived and how their broad range fits in like a glove in this poster. Talking  about portuguese acts we also recommend Bleeding Display, Mata Ratos, and Ventas de Esterko, just to name a few.

The venue is different, a change that was for the best, and surely will help the festival grow even more. Without any fears, they have inovated and changed the way we see an extreme music festival in Portugal, and will, hopefuly, continue to do it so in the years to come.
