Our first time into Deutschland’s toughest territory turned out to be a well succeed mission, where we were both conquers and conquered. The German organization celebrated it’s XVIth edition with an appealing line up that allowed the more than 300 persons present to mix the blasphemy of the concerts with the beauty and serenity of the forest of Bornicke. Set inside an untouched green forest outside Berlin, Under The Black Sun festival has maybe the best European festival site we have ever been. It where three days completely isolated from the rest of the World, consuming only majestic Black Metal.

DAY 1

The first night started around 21:00 h, with Germans INVOKER playing in a small wood stage, inside what it seemed to be a small medieval wooden fortress, in the festival site. It was not an orthodox black metal concert, but their major tracks, like “Armageddon Rises” or “Woods of Nothingness” left a first good impression about these young local black metalers.

Their countryman GRAIL showed a more direct sound, trying to create a more evil performance, even if the audience didn’t seemed that much convinced. Their misanthropic presence would eventually entertain the clearly more than the 30 minutes announced. It seemed that every band played a bit longer than scheduled, and so the blasphemy could extend till a more frightening hour.

French act SEIDE revealed itself as one the major festival surprises. They played uncompromised black metal, full of dark atmospheres, with a strong stage feeling. They putted themselves very close to the audience and so they created the best show of the night. Don’t expect to listen to traditional black metal here, once their somewhat modern aproach can harm the more old school tastes. Even if Seide means “silk” in German, we don’t believe that anyone could relate their performance to other than pure darkness.

Setlist: “Dans Une Flaque De Sang”, “Ein Unendlicher Blitz”, “Pleine Lune”, “Fire Within”, “Mystic Shape of Self Hatred”, “Unbeliever” and two new songs still to be released.

When Dutch veterans INFINITY started their show, the ambience in the crowd was already in the perfect mood to celebrate their anti-christian propaganda. Sharing a couple of members with fellow countrymen Funeral Winds, they proved to be in the Dutch first line when it comes to black metal acts. Leading by Balgradon Xul, in charge of the drums and vocal work, they played mostly tracks from their last album “Non De Act Terra”, but also the great “Under Crimson Wings of Hate”.

After the shows, when the night ended, there was no one left but the “usuals”. A real case study…
