Report: VALLENFYRE + FOSCOR @ RCA

In a weekend marked by Burning Light Festival, Lisbon had another important event to offer, once British Vallenfyre came to visit our country for the first time.

It was in a surprisingly well filled RCA that we entered by the sounds of Spanish FOSCOR, supporting band for the Iberian dates of the British headliners. Since the first time we saw them three years have passed, and the proggressive vein of their Black metal just got bigger. Complex songs and coordinated stage presence still make the mark of their sounds, even if recalling much more often to clean voices than in the past. Maybe that’s why we felt the lack of some more musical aggression. But there’s no doubt that their technique makes no one indifferent.

But everyone was there to taste the rotten smells of VALLENFYRE. Led by Greg Mackintosh (Paradise Lost), and counting also with ex My Dying Bride Hamish Glencross and Extinction of Mankind’s bassist Scoot, the UK’s quartet produced a very convincing 60 minutes show. Old school death metal, splattered with some dragged doomish parts that entertained perfectly all the audience, that even had some laughing momments, courtesy of Mr. Mackintosh’s well humoured presence. Mixing themes from their two albums, “A Thousand Martys”, “Seeds” and the final sequence with “Cattle”, “Desecration” and “Splinters” were some of the reasons why everyone left satisfied, proving that old school Death Metal continues to provoque our nerves with underground quality.
