The legends of extreme metal REVENGE head this second wave of confirmations for the Minho festival SWR Barroselas Metalfest, but besides the Canadians there are 14 other names added to the poster. Also worth mentioning is the confirmation of the presence of the unavoidable grindcore TERRORIZER and the classics of heavy metal ANVIL.
Two decades, five records and many brutal concerts since they came together in the 90’s, REVENGE will finally debut on national soil at SWR Barroselas Metalfest. Direct heir to the tradition of Ross Bay Cult, the trio led by J. Read – a musician with ties to such respected names as Conqueror, Black Witchery or Death Worship – claims to be one of the most extreme proposals in heavy music today and, with its vicious fusion of black/death metal injected with steroids, does not take prisoners wherever it goes. Proof of this is the savage savagery of albums with such illuminating titles as “Triumph.Genocide.Antichrist”, “Infiltration.Downfall.Death” or the latest “Behold.Total.Rejection”, veritable discharges of suffocating brutality, which only gain even more strength and muscle on stage.
No less legendary, despite moving in different styles, are the TERRORIZER and the ANVIL, which will lead to a much awaited return and another premiere in Portugal, respectively. After recording two models that became legendary on the tape-trading circuit, it was with the posthumous release of the album “World Downfall” in 1987 that the Terrorizers finally cemented their position as one of the most influential names in the grind trend. After almost two decades of silence, the death of guitarist Jesse Pintado and the departure of drummer Pete Sandoval from Morbid Angel, the trio resumed activity in 2006, having released three albums since then. ANVIL, perhaps one of the most unfairly ignored bands of the 80s heavy metal boom, have in their catalog several revered titles, among them “Metal On Metal” and “Forged In Fire”, but it has been by the force of much stubbornness and dedication that have managed to maintain a constant career, which suffered a new breath of energy after the release of the documentary “Anvil: The Story Of Anvil”, 2009.
Completing the poster which, it should be remembered, already had AUTOPSY, MGŁA, MORBID SAINT, GUTALAX and HORNA, among many others, is also confirmed the presence of the New Zealand DIOCLETIAN, the Norwegian DEATHHAMMER, the Finnish SARGEIST, the Italian HIDEOUS DIVINITY, the American SKELETAL REMAINS and the Spanish ADRIFT. The national contingent, for its part, is in good hands and continues to thicken with scheduled performances by DECAYED – who will perform a very special lineup, commemorating their three decades of career – SIMBIOSE, RAVENSIRE, ALCOHOLOCAUST, NEVOA and HOLOCAUSTO EM CHAMAS. At this moment, there are only 20 names left to announce that, between April 29th and May 2nd, they take the stage of the SWR Arena, with free entrance.
