ISIS is highly regarded as one of the most influential bands of the sludge/doom movement. It’s publically known that they disbanded in 2010, but they still have released some compitations as well as they maintain their online activity. A couple of days ago, the metal community was informed that the band has changed their facebook page name to Isis the band, in order to avoid some misinterpretation regarding the Islamic terrorist group also named Isis.
This sunni muslim cult is seen as the responsible for the recent execution of the journalist James Foley, and is now regarded as the reason why ISIS changed their name on online designations, allegedly because they received several threats of people mistaking them with that Iraqui warfare.
Off course that some reactions took already shape, namely negative ones, as pointed out by Aaron Harris, the band’s former drummer:
It certainly caught us off guard (…)
Fans have emailed us that they’re reluctant to wear our T-shirts now and we’ve also gotten some off-color comments (…)
Just like our fans, we’ve been watching the news in disbelief. We haven’t commented on it because we haven’t been an active band since 2010, even though our music does live on. We maintain our Facebook page to keep people up to date on our current musical projects.
