Party.San Metal Open Air 2026 continues commitment to Extreme Metal
The Party.San Metal Open Air returns from 6 to 8 August 2026 at Flugplatz Obermehler in Schlotheim, Germany, reaffirming its position as one of Europe’s leading festivals dedicated exclusively to extreme metal. Since its establishment in the mid-1990s, Party.San has maintained a clear artistic identity, presenting carefully curated line-ups that span death metal, black metal, thrash metal, doom and grindcore while remaining firmly connected to the international underground scene.
This year’s programme once again brings together an extensive selection of established and emerging artists. Among the confirmed acts are Testament, Amorphis, Hypocrisy, Dark Funeral, Moonspell, Marduk, Sacred Reich, Alcest, Wolves in the Throne Room, Misery Index, Devourment, Sorcerer, Wolfbrigade, Desaster, Hexvessel, Jungle Rot, 200 Stab Wounds, Evoken, Celeste, Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench, IOTUNN, Panzerfaust, Gorefest, Groza, Fleshcrawl and many others. The diversity of styles represented across the bill illustrates the festival’s continued dedication to showcasing the broad spectrum of contemporary extreme metal.
Unlike many of Europe’s larger summer festivals, Party.San has deliberately retained its specialist focus. Rather than expanding into multiple musical genres, the event has consistently prioritised death, black and thrash metal alongside doom and grindcore, creating an environment that appeals to audiences seeking a programme rooted in the underground. This editorial direction has contributed significantly to the festival’s international reputation and has made it a regular destination for fans travelling from across Europe and beyond.
Beyond its musical programme, Party.San continues to offer the atmosphere that has become synonymous with the festival. Camping, after-show activities, independent merchandise stands and a strong sense of community remain central to the experience, reinforcing its status as one of Germany’s most respected extreme metal gatherings. The organisers have consistently balanced internationally recognised names with cult underground acts, ensuring that each edition reflects both the history and the ongoing evolution of extreme metal.
The 2026 edition also highlights the festival’s continued ability to present legendary artists alongside newer generations of bands. Established acts share the programme with emerging names from across Europe and North America, reflecting the organisers’ long-standing commitment to supporting both influential pioneers and the future of the underground metal scene. This balance remains one of Party.San’s defining characteristics and continues to distinguish it within the international festival circuit.
Among this year’s headline artists, Testament remain one of the defining bands of American thrash metal. Formed in Berkeley, California, in 1983, the group emerged during the second wave of the Bay Area thrash movement and quickly established a distinctive identity through technically accomplished guitar work, sophisticated songwriting and the commanding vocal performances of Chuck Billy. Albums including The Legacy, Practice What You Preach, The New Order and The Gathering helped cement their reputation as one of the genre’s most influential acts. Unlike many of their contemporaries, Testament have maintained remarkable consistency throughout their career, continuing to release critically acclaimed material while remaining one of the most respected live bands in modern thrash metal. More than four decades after their formation, they continue to demonstrate both creative vitality and enduring relevance, making their appearance at Party.San Metal Open Air 2026 one of the festival’s principal attractions.
