On December 6, Sala MOUCO hosted a double heavy yet complementary aesthetics: Portugal’s Music In Low Frequencies as the opening act and Ireland’s Primordial as headliners.

Music In Low Frequencies opened the evening with a set marked by sonic density and a strong atmospheric component.

The band has focused its live performances on material from the album Catharsis, alongside compositions that explore sludge and doom-oriented textures combined with experimental ambient passages.

These elements worked effectively as a preparatory soundscape for the main act, with songs like “This Corpse“, “Unconsciousness” or “Starving the Weak”, made the dlight for everyone present.

Primordial followed with a setlist that reflected both their recent touring cycle and key moments from their catalogue. Their performance included songs such as “As Rome Burns”, “No Grave Deep Enough”, “Gallows Hymn”, “How It Ends”, “To Hell or the Hangman”, “Gods to the Godless”, “Empire Falls”, “The Coffin Ships” and finally “To Enter Pagan “.

Despite the band’s most recent album How It Ends being from 2023, they centered on revisiting older compositions that have long defined their identity, which pleased the audience.

Musically, the performance emphasised Primordial’s well-known duality: moments of aggressive momentum driven by expansive riffing and emphatic percussion contrasted with sections rooted in atmosphere and introspection. Alan A. Nemtheanga’s vocal delivery played a central role in shaping this dynamic, guiding the set through its shifts in intensity and reinforcing the sense of continuity across different eras of the band’s output.

The intimate layout of Sala MOUCO contributed to a close connection between performers and audience, Alan A. Nemtheanga has nothing to prove regarding being an excellent frontman interacting with the audience constantly, which made a December night even warmer.

Overall, the concert presented a coherent narrative across both performances, pairing a national act focused on textural heaviness with an international band whose epic and melancholic language remains firmly established.
