Sanford, FL police officer Andrew Ricks has lost his job after joining infamous Death Metal act VITAL REMAINS onstage last weekend. About that collaboration frontman Brian Werner said of the set:
So last night was quite intersting, we had Augustus Invictus who is running for United States Senate in the crowd last night. Then 2 on duty police officers come in and walk up to the stage and says’ Will you please play Dechristianze?” I said only if you sing Let the Killing begin…….
So, as you can see, agent Ricks was on duty at the time and sang the opening refrains of “Let the killing begin” at Werner‘s own request. The following days the local newspaper Orlando Sentinel reported that agent Ricks was fired over the incident with Sanford Police Chief Cecil B. Smith commenting:
An incident of this nature erodes the thin fibers of trust which already exist between the community and the police and it will not tolerated within the Sanford Police Department.
It is important that the agency must maintain and improve upon the trust built within the community. Based on the information received, it is imperative that we have no misinterpretations of the immediate actions taken by the police department in situations of this nature and that we will continue to provide professional service to all citizens of Sanford.
Following this development, Vital Remains frontman Brian Werner commented of the firing:
This is exactly what’s wrong with the world today.
To our readers we just have to comment: Keep making Death Metal a public service!
