Nightshade Frequencies 2026 brings together pioneers and contemporary voices of Extreme Music

Nightshade Frequencies returns on 5 September 2026 at Fållan in Stockholm for its second edition, continuing its ambition to present a carefully curated programme dedicated to the darker and more extreme ends of heavy music. Organised by Death Disco Productions in collaboration with FKP Scorpio, the festival combines black metal, industrial, dark ambient and related genres, bringing together artists from different generations while placing equal emphasis on established names and contemporary performers.

The programme reflects that vision with confirmations including Marduk, Thyrfing, Forndom, Brighter Death Now, Triarii, Thyrfing, Vintersorg, Karjalan Sissit and Blood Fire Death. Rather than focusing on a single subgenre, Nightshade Frequencies embraces different expressions of extreme music, creating a line-up that highlights both the historical foundations of the scene and its continued evolution. Central to this year’s edition is the Swedish debut of Blood Fire Death, a tribute project dedicated to the music and legacy of Quorthon and Bathory, described by the organisers as one of the festival’s defining performances. The event also serves as a tribute to Stockholm-born Quorthon, whose influence continues to shape black metal and Viking metal decades after his passing.

By bringing together pioneering artists alongside projects celebrating the genre’s heritage, Nightshade Frequencies continues to distinguish itself as more than a conventional festival. Its programme explores different facets of extreme music while acknowledging the historical connections between the artists performing today and those who helped establish the foundations of the scene. This balance between legacy and innovation has become one of the event’s defining characteristics, offering audiences a broader perspective on Scandinavian extreme music and its enduring cultural impact.

Blood Fire Death was established in 2024 to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of Quorthon’s death and celebrate the enduring legacy of Bathory, one of the most influential bands in the history of extreme metal. Rather than functioning as a conventional tribute act, the project brings together a collective of renowned Scandinavian musicians, including members of Watain, Enslaved, Aura Noir, Emperor, and former Bathory bassist Frederick Melander, among others. Since its debut, Blood Fire Death has appeared at major European festivals, presenting performances dedicated exclusively to Bathory’s catalogue while faithfully recreating material spanning the band’s black metal and Viking metal eras. Their growing festival presence reflects the lasting significance of Quorthon’s work, demonstrating how Bathory’s pioneering approach continues to influence successive generations of musicians and audiences across the international extreme metal community.
