Palegazer to present White Mourning live with Verbian
Portuguese atmospheric sludge and post-metal trio Palegazer will present their debut album, White Mourning, in a live performance on 30 October, with Verbian joining the bill as the opening act at Woodstock 69, in Porto
The concert marks an important moment for Palegazer, following the release of their first full-length record through Octopus Rising. The album establishes the band’s approach to atmospheric and heavy music, combining elements of post-metal, sludge and doom with more restrained and melodic passages.
White Mourning consists of five tracks: “Imminence”, “Searing Light”, “As What Remains Drifts”, “Ancient Twin” and the fourteen-minute title track. Recorded at the band’s own studio, the album was mixed and mastered by Diogo Santana of Noise Portrait Recordings.
The record is centred around themes of loss, vulnerability, human fragility and the process of letting go. Rather than approaching mourning exclusively through absence and grief, Palegazer connect these ideas with transformation and the possibility of moving forward.
Musically, the album moves between dense guitar arrangements, atmospheric sections and heavier passages, reflecting the band’s interest in the more expansive side of contemporary heavy music. Their sound draws from post-metal while incorporating characteristics associated with sludge and doom.
The album’s closing composition, “White Mourning”, is also its longest track, extending beyond fourteen minutes and providing the record with its most expansive musical statement. Across the five songs, Palegazer favour gradual development and changes in intensity rather than conventional song structures.
Joining the bill are Verbian, who will open the evening. Their inclusion places another Portuguese underground act alongside Palegazer for a night focused on contemporary heavy music.
For Palegazer, the concert provides an opportunity to take White Mourning beyond its recorded form and present the album as a complete live work. The performance will also offer a first opportunity for audiences to experience the band’s debut in its entirety within the context in which its atmospheric and dynamic elements can be fully explored.
