Garboyl Lives has unveiled the final additions to the SonicBlast Fest 2026 programme, completing the line-up for the festival’s four-day return to Praia da Duna do Caldeirão between 5 and 8 August.
The latest announcement introduces Bongzilla, Capela Mortuária and Free Ride, while confirming schedule adjustments involving Deathchant and Necrot.
The most significant addition is American sludge metal pioneers Bongzilla, who will make their long-awaited Portuguese debut with two performances during the festival. The Wisconsin trio will headline the traditional Warm-Up Party on 5 August before returning on the opening festival day for a second full performance, marking one of the most anticipated appearances of the 2026 edition.
Formed in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1995, Bongzilla became one of the defining names of the sludge and stoner metal movement through albums such as Stash, Gateway and Weedsconsin. Their slow, heavily distorted sound and unmistakable identity have established the band as a cult act within the international underground heavy music scene, with their return to touring introducing a new generation of audiences to their catalogue.
Joining the Warm-Up Party is Capela Mortuária, one of the most respected contemporary names in Portuguese thrash metal. Since their formation, the band has built a reputation through an aggressive approach that combines classic thrash influences with elements of black and death metal, becoming a consistent presence within Portugal’s underground circuit. Their inclusion reinforces Garboyl Lives’ continued commitment to showcasing national artists alongside internationally recognised acts.
Spanish psychedelic rock band Free Ride completes the final announcement, joining the programme on 6 August. Emerging from the contemporary heavy psychedelic scene, the group has gained recognition for combining vintage rock influences with expansive songwriting and improvisational passages, complementing SonicBlast Fest’s long-standing focus on stoner, psych and progressive heavy music.
Alongside the final artist confirmations, Garboyl Lives also announced scheduling changes within the programme. Deathchant will now perform on 7 August, while Necrot moves to 8 August. To accommodate festivalgoers affected by the timetable adjustments, holders of single-day tickets for either date will be able to exchange their tickets until 10 July.
With these final additions, SonicBlast Fest 2026 presents one of its most comprehensive line-ups to date, bringing together internationally established names and emerging underground artists across sludge, doom, stoner rock, psychedelic rock, hardcore and extreme metal. The programme reflects Garboyl Lives’ continued dedication to curating a festival that has become one of Europe’s leading destinations for underground heavy music.
