Faro Alternativo 2026 expands its Underground Legacy with a diverse 3 day programme

The 16th edition of Faro Alternativo will take place between 2 and 4 October 2026, introducing a new chapter in the festival’s history as it moves to the Passeio Ribeirinho de Faro. Across three evenings, two stages and eighteen bands, the event continues its long-standing commitment to the Portuguese underground while welcoming a selection of international acts spanning hardcore, death metal, black metal, punk, stoner rock and alternative music. After fifteen successful editions, Faro Alternativo remains one of Portugal’s most consistent independent festivals, driven by a community-first philosophy that has prioritised underground music since its inception.

Friday’s programme is led by Desolated, whose return to Portugal is among the festival’s most anticipated performances. The Southampton hardcore outfit has established itself as one of the UK’s most respected contemporary heavy hardcore bands, combining metallic riffs, crushing breakdowns and an uncompromising live presence. Sharing the bill are Spanish hardcore veterans Brothers Till We Die, Brazil’s Asfixia Social, and Portuguese acts Grankapo, Fear The Lord and Against Them All, creating an opening night firmly rooted in hardcore and beatdown traditions.

Saturday shifts towards the heavier end of the spectrum with Spanish death metal pioneers Avulsed leading a line-up that also includes Teething, one of Spain’s most aggressive contemporary grind and hardcore acts. Portuguese black metal veterans Morte Incandescente, death metal newcomers Capela Mortuária, Besta and Baltum complete a programme that reflects the stylistic diversity for which Faro Alternativo has become known.

The festival concludes on Sunday with another varied selection of artists. Portuguese punk legends Mata-Ratos bring decades of experience to the closing day, while Miss Lava continue to represent the country’s modern heavy rock scene with their groove-driven sound. Spanish melodic death metal band Ancient Settlers joins the programme alongside Redemptus, Razor Kids and Undercover Society, ensuring the weekend concludes with the same breadth of styles that defines the overall event.

Beyond the line-up itself, the move to the Passeio Ribeirinho de Faro represents an important step in the festival’s continued development. The new riverside location provides additional space while preserving the intimate atmosphere that has distinguished Faro Alternativo throughout its history.
