Report: Downfall Of Gaia + Syberia @ Maus Hábitos, Porto

Downfall Of Gaia returned to Portugal, after 11 years, to be present at Porto’s well-known cultural space, Maus Hábitos, accompanied by Syberia.

It was a night that began around 9:30pm, with Syberia taking the stage, who brought their rock instrumental to the height of a 4th floor, showing those present how to tell a story through instruments, delivering a sound that led us to close our eyes and let ourselves go.

Created in 2010 in Barcelona, this quartet features Oscar and Jardi on guitars, Quim on bass and Manel on drums and they used their full potential to present us with their latest album, Statement on Death, in this room that quickly filled up, counting with a good audience right from the first songs. During the band’s 45-ish minute performance, they performed “Stolen Childhood”, “Ain’t.Care.About.Bullets”, “Breathe”, “Nothing Inside” and “No Frames to Remember Them” flawlessly in a very solid and convincing show.

Shortly after 10:30 pm it was Downfall Of Gaia’s turn to bring their Metal to Maus Hábitos, the result of the influence of Doom and Black Metal, with a mix of Hardcore violence with the atmosphere and muscles of the Sludge genre.

It was with the intensity and violence of songs like “Existence of Awe”, “The Grotesque Illusion of Being”, “Boodies as Driftwood” and “While Bloodsprings Become Rivers” that, Dominik and Anton on Voice and Guitar, Peter on Voice and Bass and Michael on drums, presented the audience with a unique, transcendent and energetic sound, which leaves us wanting more and more.

After a tremendous increase in rhythm and intensity, it was with the silence of “Optograms of Disgust”, that this fantastic German quartet left everyone and everything with the desire for the next concert. Hopefully it won’t take as long as this one.

Special thank you to AmplificaSom for all the collaboration.
