OLS – Ols

Ols is a one-woman project, entirely created by the author, who composes, writes lyrics, sings and plays instruments.

This project could be described as a neofolk, based on multi-part vocal harmonies of ritual and hypnotic atmosphere. The main inspiration behind the creation of this project is nature in all its manifestations and human feelings, conceived as its integral part. Songs like “O drzewach”, “Woda”, “Chmielna”, and “Kołysanka”, are very good (not festive) folk pieces, with a lot of variations in terms of vocals and song construction, never linear, and ready to touch the inner feelings of the listener, with guitar strings that mold the melodies very gently, in a smooth and organic way. This is perfect for neo folk lovers, and some goth listeners might dig this project as well. The Katatonia cover Unfurl is a measured risk that came out very well.

The fact that it’s sung in Polish language adds a spice to the album, it’s not a language we might be used to listen, but it results quite well. It’s a good surprise, original at least, in a genre that sometimes falls into a point of no-return where everything sounds the same.

Ols proposition is a break from all that. A pleasant calming record.
