American black metal project Blackbraid will perform in Barcelona with an expanded bill, as Catalan atmospheric black metal act Sotabosc has been confirmed as the special guest for the evening. The addition brings together two artists whose work explores the relationship between nature, identity and atmosphere, offering a programme that connects distinct cultural perspectives through contemporary black metal.

Emerging from the Catalan underground, Sotabosc have developed a sound that combines atmospheric black metal with post-rock influences while drawing inspiration from the landscapes, history and cultural identity of Catalonia. Performing exclusively in Catalan, the band’s compositions are built around expansive melodies, layered textures and a strong sense of place, creating music that balances intensity with introspection. Their participation complements the thematic direction of the evening while introducing audiences to one of the region’s emerging extreme metal projects.

The concert also marks another European appearance for Blackbraid, whose music has attracted significant international attention in recent years. Conceived as the solo project of Native American musician Jon “Sgah’gahsowáh” Krieger, Blackbraid draws inspiration from the forests and mountains of the Adirondack region, combining the sonic characteristics of atmospheric and melodic black metal with themes rooted in Indigenous history, spirituality and the natural world. The result is a body of work that merges aggressive instrumentation with cinematic compositions and a strong environmental identity.

Pairing Blackbraid with Sotabosc creates a programme where both artists share an interest in translating landscape and cultural heritage into musical expression. While each approaches these themes from different geographical and historical perspectives, both projects rely on atmosphere, melody and emotional depth as central elements of their compositions, offering audiences a coherent and thoughtfully assembled concert experience.

Since the release of its self-titled debut in 2022, Blackbraid has become one of the most widely discussed names in contemporary atmospheric black metal. Created by Jon Krieger, an Indigenous musician of the Adirondack Native heritage, the project quickly gained recognition for integrating traditional black metal with lyrical narratives centred on Indigenous identity, environmental preservation and the landscapes of northeastern North America. The independently released albums Blackbraid I and Blackbraid II received widespread critical acclaim for their ambitious songwriting, production quality and ability to combine aggression with melodic sophistication. Despite remaining a solo project in the studio, Blackbraid has established itself as a significant presence on the international live circuit, demonstrating how contemporary black metal continues to evolve through personal artistic vision while remaining connected to the genre’s atmospheric foundations.
