Bloodstock Open Air 2026 prepares for another landmark edition of Heavy Music

Bloodstock Open Air will return to Catton Park between 6 and 9 August 2026, continuing its position as one of Europe’s leading festivals dedicated exclusively to heavy music. Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the event brings together established legends, contemporary headliners and emerging artists across multiple stages, reinforcing the festival’s long-standing commitment to showcasing the breadth of the international metal scene.

The Ronnie James Dio Stage will be headlined by Saxon, Lamb of God, Slaughter to Prevail and Judas Priest, representing different generations of heavy music. Beyond the main stage, the programme extends across the Sophie Lancaster Stage, New Blood Stage and EMP Stage, reflecting Bloodstock’s established philosophy of combining internationally recognised acts with developing talent.

The 2026 line-up illustrates the stylistic diversity that has characterised Bloodstock throughout its history. Among the confirmed artists are Sepultura, Municipal Waste, Biohazard, Fit For An Autopsy, Life of Agony, Northlane, Of Mice & Men, Death Angel, Orbit Culture, Leprous, Black Label Society, Testament, Kittie, Carpenter Brut, Mushroomhead, Cryptopsy, Bleed From Within, Wednesday 13, Castle Rat and many others, covering genres that range from traditional heavy metal and thrash to progressive metal, hardcore, deathcore and industrial music.

Since its inception in 2001, Bloodstock has steadily developed into one of the United Kingdom’s most respected specialist festivals. Unlike larger multi-genre events, it has maintained a clear focus on heavy music while expanding its infrastructure, programming and international profile. The festival’s continued support for emerging artists through initiatives such as the New Blood Stage and Metal 2 The Masses has also contributed to the discovery of new talent, strengthening its role within the wider metal community.

The festival’s twenty-fifth anniversary edition reflects both continuity and evolution. Alongside internationally established performers, Bloodstock continues to provide opportunities for newer acts while preserving the community atmosphere that has become one of its defining characteristics. This balance between legacy artists and contemporary names has allowed the festival to remain relevant within an increasingly diverse heavy music landscape.

Among this year’s headline artists, Judas Priest remain one of the most influential bands in the history of heavy metal. Formed in Birmingham in 1969, the group helped establish many of the musical and visual characteristics that would define the genre over subsequent decades. Through landmark albums including British Steel, Screaming for Vengeance, Painkiller and Firepower, the band consistently combined technical precision, memorable songwriting and a distinctive twin-guitar approach that influenced generations of musicians. Despite more than five decades of activity and numerous changes within the music industry, Judas Priest have maintained a consistently high creative standard while continuing to perform internationally. Their enduring relevance and contribution to heavy metal make them a fitting headliner for Bloodstock’s twenty-fifth anniversary celebration.
