Corpus Christii and Irae will take to the stage at República da Música in Lisbon on 19 December for a special event celebrating five essential releases in Portuguese black metal.
On 19 December, República da Música in Lisbon will host a night dedicated to two of the most significant names in Portugal’s extreme underground scene.
In what promises to be a unique display of devotion to the genre, Corpus Christii and Irae will perform special sets focusing on releases that have left a lasting mark on their respective careers, revisiting some of the darkest chapters in Portuguese black metal.
Formed in 1998, Corpus Christii have earned recognition both in Portugal and internationally through their fierce, uncompromising approach to black metal, rooted in the genre’s raw and orthodox traditions. Led by Nocturnus Horrendus, the band has built a cult discography, with the so-called The Torment Trilogy occupying a particularly important place in its history. At República da Música, Corpus Christii will revisit all three instalments of this era: Tormented Belief (2003), The Torment Continues (2005) and Rising (2007).
Irae, meanwhile, emerged in 2002 as the personal project of Vulturius, establishing itself through a raw, dark and visceral interpretation of the genre. The December concert will place particular emphasis on the 2004 demo Avé Sathanas (I Was Born to Murder the World) and the 2006 debut full-length album Terror 666, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Both recordings played an important role in shaping the distinctive extreme identity of the band from Brandoa.
On 19 December, fans will therefore have a unique opportunity to witness two distinct musical journeys united by a shared devotion to the darkest forms of metal. Each performance will focus on a different period in the careers of these two institutions of Portugal’s underground scene.
