Faith & Spirit are certainly one of those bands that took the revivalism very seriously and don’t waiver when admitting it. They are a kind of a band that relive an era, with no bullshit or reinterpretations.
The sound is made to be very faithful, and pleasant, portraying an era full of good memories. More than Elvis, with a Led Zep, or Deep Purple feeling attached to it, Faith & Spirit carries you to the sound of a beach (the beach rock so to speak). With an excellent songwriting. Unfortunately, they play on a scene where there are a lot of bands thriving for recognition.
In terms of sound structuring, and moreover songwriting, the sound is well structured, and focused. Vivien Thilien, the mastermind behind these spiritualized French boys has a pretty clear idea of where he wants to take the sound, and where he should focus his writing at. This idea is visible all along the album where the songs vary, but manage to keep their identity. And there is harmony in the EP as whole.
And as to instrumentals, the presence of the keyboardist Geoffrey Cantou is noticed and gives the density to the songs. Interestingly, it surpasses the presence of the guitar duo alone.
On the other hand every song on this EP has single potential, with a very good base chord, and strong vocal performances, «Black Moon» and «Down the Road» are good examples.
Despite being shadowed by the revivalism that they so desperately want to portray, we believe there is room for some transcendence, and perhaps a reinterpretation of the past.
