It was in February 2016 that “Stand in the Fire” album was released becoming one of Striker’s finest albums. Exactly one year has passed and another of their high quality work has been released, their self-titled.
Shining vocals, captivating choirs, crushing riffs and powerful drums compose this fifth album by the Canadian band, where we can see the influence of bands such as Annihilator, Judas Priest, Forbidden. Their sound ranges from heavy metal to speed metal, with a few couloring details of power and a touch of glam metal.
“Former Glory” opens the album with a contagious and invigorating energy, whereas the listener will get the idea that they are going to find another personality-filled album by this band. The second track “Pass Me By” tears everything ripping with furious riffs and ferocious speed metal drums, showing the incredible adaptive capacity these guys have to match their themes.
“Born to Lose” is the golden track of the album. A quite entertaining song, with attractive riffs that the listener will find catchy and remember, and it will recognize it is as tribute to Lemmy. For instance, the verse “Born to Lose but I ‘m living to win” is a reference to one of Killmister’s best-known phrases.
The song “Rock in the Night” is softer sounding, while “Over the Top” stands out for its weight and speed. “Freedom’s Call” has enough notoriety, and stands out the most. On the other hand “Born to Lose”, starts out with a melodious guitar and allows it self to take a harsher speed metal record, with a powerful chorus and hypnotic riffs.
The 33 minutes of the album are quite consistent and easily digestible, although it could present a little more diversity. However it’s a record that is worth listening and have fun with.
7/10
