Summoning of Darkness Festival 2026 reinforces its commitment to the Black Metal underground

The second edition of Summoning of Darkness Festival will take place on 23 and 24 October 2026 at Slaktkyrkan and Hus 7 in Stockholm, continuing its dedication to the underground black metal scene through a carefully assembled international line-up. Rather than pursuing scale, the festival has established its identity by bringing together artists representing different interpretations of black metal while placing a strong emphasis on exclusive performances and a curated atmosphere.

Among the most anticipated performances is Cult of Fire, who will make their exclusive Swedish appearance at the festival. The Czech outfit has become one of Europe’s most distinctive black metal acts through an artistic vision that combines ritualistic imagery, Eastern spirituality and atmospheric compositions. Their live performances are recognised for their immersive presentation, making their appearance one of the central attractions of this year’s programme.

Norwegian black metal force Whoredom Rife joins the bill alongside Swedish atmospheric black metal act Wormwood, both representing different yet complementary approaches to the genre. While Whoredom Rife remain rooted in the cold and aggressive traditions of Norwegian black metal, Wormwood have earned recognition for integrating Scandinavian folklore and historical narratives into expansive and melodic compositions. Together they provide a strong balance between tradition and contemporary expression.

The festival also features several exclusive appearances, including Afsky, Inferno, Abduction and Helvitnir, alongside Outlaw, Imperishable, Hedon, Haradrim and Hellgoat, reinforcing the organisers’ intention of presenting a programme focused on the international underground rather than mainstream festival circuits. Beyond the concerts themselves, visitors can also expect a merchandise market, independent vendors, exhibitions and food trucks, creating a complete festival environment throughout both days.

Although still in its early years, Summoning of Darkness has quickly distinguished itself by offering a coherent artistic direction instead of stylistic diversity for its own sake. The line-up reflects a commitment to black metal in its various forms—from ritualistic and atmospheric interpretations to raw, melodic and death-influenced approaches, allowing each performance to contribute to a consistent identity across the weekend.

Among this year’s artists, Cult of Fire stand out as one of the festival’s defining names. Formed in Prague in 2010, the band has developed a distinctive identity by combining black metal with themes inspired by Hinduism, Buddhism and Eastern philosophy. Rather than relying solely on the aesthetics traditionally associated with the genre, Cult of Fire have created an immersive artistic concept encompassing music, visual presentation and symbolism. Albums such as Triumvirát, मृत्यु का तापसी अनुध्यान (Ascetic Meditation of Death) and Nirvana have demonstrated remarkable consistency, earning the band widespread recognition within the international black metal community. Their continued evolution and carefully crafted live performances have established Cult of Fire as one of the most respected contemporary acts in atmospheric and ritualistic black metal.
