BRUIT ≤ Delivers hypnotic Post-Rock and existential fury at Casa Capitão

On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, Lisbon’s Casa Capitão hosted a night of visceral instrumental music as Toulouse quartet BRUIT ≤ made their long-awaited capital debut. Touring in support of their latest album, The Age of Ephemerality, the French group returned to Portugal four years after their acclaimed 2022 performance at Amplifest in Porto, treating Lisbon to a precursor performance before heading north the following day.

Setting the stage for the headliners, Porto-based instrumental rock outfit Cat Soup opened the night to enthusiastic applause. Adopting a stage presence described in live reports as featuring “minimalist lights but maximum performance,” the band set a vibrant tone for the evening. Their sound relied on high-tempo drive, ferocious drumming, and virtuosic saxophone melodies that seamlessly bridged post-rock textures with intricate jazz accents.

When BRUIT ≤ took the stage, they were immediately shrouded in intense lighting and accompanied by thought-provoking visual projections focused on human existence, technology, and impermanence. The hypnotic set swept seamlessly through “Ephemeral,” “Progress/Regress,” “Industry,” “Data,” and “Bloom,” building a steady crescendo before reaching its sonic peak with “Technoslavery/Vandalism,” where the band hit their heaviest stride and engulfed the room in a wall of frantic, thunderous distortion.

Following this intense climax, Clément Libes (bass player) took a moment to address the crowd with a heartfelt and humorous speech. He joked about the traditional “fake encore” routine – where bands leave the stage, wait for the audience to cheer, and inevitably come back out – explaining that they preferred to skip that and move straight to their final piece. He expressed deep gratitude to the Lisbon audience and warmly invited everyone to meet the band at the merchandise stand after the show.

The night then reached its epic conclusion with a mesmerizing performance of “The Machine Is Burning.” True to their word, after the final notes faded, the band headed straight to the merch table. They spent the rest of the evening happily chatting with a long line of fans, signing autographs, and promising a swift return to Portugal.
