Nowegian Symphonic Black Metal kings Dimmu Borgir have recently announced the release of “Forces of the Northern Night” DVD.
The release date is scheduled to April 14th and will be distributed via Nuclear Blast.
The package includes a pair of Dimmu Borgir live performances. The first one is a 2011 concert recorded in Oslo, Norway. This is the one which featured the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and Choir onstage. The second concert is their 2012 performance at the Wacken Open Air festival where they had nearly 100 musicians on stage. A documentary will be featured as bonus material. You can take a preview of the show below.
Frontman Shagrath commented:
“For us, this is the pinnacle of our career so far. As a band, we’ve always used a lot of symphonic elements in our music. But we haven’t been able to use a real orchestra live. We’ve had to use samples, synthesizers and so on, so this was a huge, awesome experience for us!”
New Dimmu Borgir album in 2017?
It’s been more than 6 years since the release of the bands last studio album “Abrahadabra”. In the meantime, nothing new has been happening within the ranks of the band. Now, after the announcement of the live DVD we couldn’t not notice the message hidden in the band’s Facebook page post:
“And beware…this is not the only gem that the year 2017 holds for Dimmu Borgir.”
This might be a hint about a new album, hopefully coming this year?
