BACK ALLEY LOBOTOMY – Crack In Lapa

Back Alley Lobotomy is a very young, grindcore/mincecore trio from Portugal, who just released their first demo on tape through Murder Records, titled “Crack In Lapa” .

Composed by Pedro on vocals, Esteves in the guitar and Gonçalo on drums, the band presents us 13 songs in this demo, one of which is a Descendents cover. As all demos should be, this was home recorded in just one go. So the production sound will somewhat hit the noise subgenre itself, blurring the lines of what extreme music should sound like.

All songs are fast and vicious, noisy and chaotic. The lyrics and themes of the band depict social problems and violence in general. Therefore, this raw and aggressive sound suits that intention perfectly. Vocals are very unperceptive and rageful, constant spews of hate towards what the band thinks is wrong in today’s society. The riffs are not new, nor innovative, they are just perfectly crafted to fit the aggressiveness of the whole concept that the band created. Drums make everything come together, with a very rotten snare, fast uneven blasts and broken cymbals, sometimes overpowering the rest of the sound. They took the best of both worlds, when it comes to the subgenres mentioned above.

This is not the typical grindcore album that fans are used to, due to its production and mincecore and noise influences, of bands like Haggus, Agathocles or Sete Star Sept. Back Alley Lobotomy is a rough diamond, waiting to be grinded and minced to perfection; or the lack of it.
